TikTok gifts and diamonds: how much a streamer really earns

A gift a viewer sends during a stream goes through three steps: the viewer's coins, the streamer's diamonds and money at withdrawal. Let's go through each step, see where the app shows gifts and gifters, and work out income with examples.

Coins, gifts and diamonds

Coins are the currency viewers buy in the TikTok app. The price of coins depends on the country, the platform and the size of the pack, so the same gift can cost viewers slightly different amounts.

Gifts are animations a viewer buys with coins and sends during a LIVE. The more expensive the gift, the more diamonds the streamer gets.

Diamonds are what the streamer collects. Diamonds make it easy to count income and compare streams with each other.

Gift Gallery and top gifters

A streamer's profile has a Gift Gallery. It shows which gifts the creator has already received and which viewer became the title gifter for each one. Tap a gift to see its top 3 gifters.

This is useful for your own profile and for others. On yours, you see your most generous viewers and can thank them personally. On profiles of other streamers at your level, you can find active gifters and invite them to your stream.

What one diamond is worth

For our calculations at the agency we use a rule of thumb: 200 diamonds ≈ 1 US dollar. So one diamond is worth about half a cent.

The exact amount you withdraw may differ. TikTok pays rewards based on your diamonds and your rewards rate, and the rate goes up when the streamer completes per-stream and weekly missions (more on this in our article on earning from streams). The final amount also depends on TikTok's rules in your country, taxes and your withdrawal method.

Worked examples

  • 1,000 diamonds per stream ≈ $5.
  • 10,000 diamonds per stream ≈ $50.
  • 5,000 diamonds per stream × 20 streams a month = 100,000 diamonds ≈ $500 a month.
  • 30,000 diamonds a month ≈ $150. This is the starting monthly goal for many creators in our club.

How to get more gifts

  • Thank viewers for every gift and call them by name.
  • Set a gift goal for each stream. TikTok lets you pick up to two goal gifts, and viewers see the progress right in the LIVE.
  • Do battles with opponents at your level.
  • Go LIVE at the same time every day so your regular viewers know when to expect you.
  • Keep an eye on your Gift Gallery. Viewers love becoming title gifters and compete for that spot.

FAQ

  • How many diamonds are in one dollar? By our rule of thumb, about 200. The exact amount depends on your rewards rate and withdrawal rules.
  • Can I withdraw diamonds right away? Rewards are withdrawn from the LIVE Rewards section. There is a daily withdrawal limit, and you can see it there too.
  • Which is better: many small gifts or one big one? For income, the total number of diamonds is what matters. But many small gifts from different viewers usually means a more stable audience.
